John John is one of Canada's leading information security professionals, with 25+ years in the field, with a rare gift for making hard concepts simple. He co-authored the first official book ever published on passing the CISSP, the Official ISC2 Guide to the CISSP Exam, and his out-of-the-box teaching is a big part of why students walk into the exam ready.

Rob brings over 20 years of deep security, privacy, and cloud assurance experience to the classroom, and he directs the integrated intelligent learning system behind our courses. He teaches with an entertaining, energetic style, grounded in years of real-world work and a clear read on what it takes to pass the CISSP and CCSP exams.
Where it started: Rob and John met delivering CISSP and CCSP classes at Deloitte. They loved the work, but saw a chance to take their training further: to build their own content and their own online platform, designed around the student. That's where Destination Certification began.

John Achieves his CISSP certification
As the value of the CISSP started to grow in the industry, John realized it was something he needed to achieve.
1999
John starts teaching CISSP classes
Soon after achieving certification, John was contacted by Hal Tipton and others at ISC2 to help globalize the CISSP certification. John became involved in many aspects of the CISSP, including the Common Body of Knowledge creation, and curriculum development.
2001
Participates in the original update of the CISSP CBK with original founders of the CISSP
John is asked to participate in the creation of a brand new CBK which is the foundation for the CISSP, and is asked to maintain it on an ongoing basis.

Rob Achieves his CISSP certification
Rob also realized the value of the CISSP certification and self-studied for and passed the CISSP exam early in his career using the official CISSP guidebook written by none other than John Berti! He had no idea at the time that over a decade later, he’d have the great honor of working with John to deliver CISSP classes!

John Leads the Train the Trainer program for ISC2
John is asked to find and train instructors around the world to teach the ISC2 official materials. He helped build the foundation for what the CISSP has become. As part of this, John maintained and updated the official curriculum for the CISSP that is taught around the world.
2014
Rob starts teaching CISSP classes
Rob was focused on working with his major clients to solve their security challenges. He had zero interest in teaching! However, by a series of circumstances, he was offered the chance to teach an easy class with John in Miami for a week. Rob primarily said yes because he’d been on a project in frozen Minnesota for a few months and was looking for some sun.
Rob quickly realized he shared the same passion for teaching as John, and he began a rapid pivot of his career to learn and teach CISSP and other challenging and valuable certifications.

Rob & John participate in the creation of the CCSP certification for ISC2.
Creating a new certification is no easy task. A lot of consultation and input are required from a diverse group of experts and a great depth of expertise is required to create an exam outline and learning materials. ISC2 relied on John and Rob’s expertise and connections to create the first outline for the CCSP exam.

Rob & John start teaching CCSP classes
As soon as the CCSP certification was completed and available, Rob & John were some of the first people to be certified and delivered the first CCSP class in Canada. They’ve continued to hone their CCSP class over the years, deliver it to large corporations around the world, and guide thousands of people to achieving their CCSP certification.

Destination Certification Founded
Rob & John loved working for Deloitte and delivering classes to Deloitte and their major clients around the world. However, they saw an opportunity to take their training to the next level - to craft unique educational content and a bespoke online learning platform.
They have since revolutionized the ease of learning for their students, enhancing their skills as security professionals and boosting their success rates in the CISSP exam.

Championed by Lou, and with the input and expertise of Rob, John & Nick, they wrote and published Destination CISSP: A concise guide, which has become an international best-selling CISSP Guidebook. It provides the most concise written guide to the CISSP exam and is an integral part of the CISSP MasterClass.
