Most cybersecurity professionals are good at identifying risk.

We assess threats. We calculate probabilities. We know what needs to be done and when.

But when it comes to our own careers, we're terrible at acting on what we know.

We know getting certified would open opportunities. We delay it.

We know switching to a better role would accelerate our growth. We wait.

We know learning a new domain would make us more valuable. We put it off.

The excuses are always the same: "I'm not ready yet” or “I’m too busy now".

Except we can’t clearly define either of those. There's always one more thing to study. One more concept to master. One more project to finish first.

Perfectionism feels like good judgment. It feels like being thorough. But perfectionism is just procrastination with better PR.

Career momentum comes from taking the next step before you feel completely ready. Because you'll never feel completely ready. And your calendar will always be full. There's always a reason to wait.

"I'll get certified after this busy period at work."
The busy period never ends. There's always another project.

"I'll study when I have more time."
You don't get more time. You make time or you don't.

"I'll switch roles when I'm more experienced."
You get more experience by switching roles, not before.

The cost of waiting isn't obvious day-to-day. But calculate it over years. The salary differential between where you are and where you could be. The opportunities you didn't get because you delayed too long. The projects you missed because someone else took the step you were still preparing for.

Perfectionism doesn't protect you from failure. It just guarantees you'll move slower than people who are willing to be imperfect.

If CISSP is something you know you should do, stop waiting to feel ready. You'll feel ready after you pass, not before.

Our next bootcamp runs April 6-10, 2026. We also have a European session May 25-30, 2026. Five days, then you take the exam and move forward.
