If security certifications were dog breeds

We spend way too much time thinking about certifications.

So naturally, we started wondering: if security certifications were dog breeds, which would they be?

Here's what we came up with.

Network+ is a Labrador Retriever

Friendly, dependable, and everyone's first choice when they're getting started. Labs teach you the basics of dog ownership. Network+ does the same thing for IT. Plus, both are impossibly enthusiastic about everything.

Security+ is a German Shepherd

German Shepherds could be called “security dogs”—they're literally police and military dogs. Security+ is similarly synonymous with cybersecurity, teaching you how to defend systems and spot threats. Both are highly respected and will absolutely bark at anything suspicious.

CCSP is a Border Collie

Highly intelligent, agile, and always working in dynamic environments. Border Collies excel at managing complex, fast-moving situations. CCSP does the same for cloud environments—managing security across distributed, constantly changing infrastructure. Both require continuous learning and are happiest solving complex problems.

CISSP is a Great Dane

Massive, comprehensive, and slightly intimidating. Great Danes cover a lot of ground. CISSP is the same way: eight domains of security knowledge that include literally everything. Both require significant commitment. You don't casually get a Great Dane, and you don't casually study for CISSP.

CISM is a Golden Retriever

Everyone loves them, they're great with people, and they lead without being aggressive. Golden Retrievers are the management dogs—gentle leaders who understand that getting things done is about relationships. CISM focuses on security management and governance, teaching you how to build programs and work with stakeholders. Perfect for executive meetings.

AAISM is an Australian Cattle Dog

Smart, adaptable, and bred for emerging challenges. Australian Cattle Dogs were specifically developed to handle new conditions traditional breeds couldn't manage. AAISM (AI Security Management) was created for the new challenges of artificial intelligence security. Both are highly intelligent, require experienced handlers (AAISM requires CISM or CISSP first), and excel at managing complex, evolving situations.

PS: If you're thinking about getting certified (or if our ridiculous dog breed comparisons somehow helped you figure out which cert to pursue), we'd love to help. We offer bootcamps and masterclasses for CISSP, CCSP, CISM, Security+, Network+, and, coming soon, AAISM.
